Well we know that it is hot down there, anyway for your info:

Hi Everyone,

Effective Friday, June 19, 2015 the Tillamook State Forest is operating under the Regulated Use restrictions for fire season.  You will see bright orange signs posted at the forest entrances and on various information boards for the duration of the restricted use period.

Here’s a brief summary of what this means for the recreation public:

·        NO SMOKING – except in the closed cab of your vehicle (doors on and windows rolled up) or your RV or camp trailer.

·        NO OPEN FIRES – no campfires or charcoal barbecues except at designated campgrounds or designated dispersed campsites at which ODF has installed metal fire grates.  (Propane stoves and gas barbecues are OK in dispersed sites.)

·        NO NON-INDUSTRIAL USE OF CHAINSAWS – except as waived by the Forester.

·        NO MOTORIZED VEHICLES OFF ROADS EXCEPT IN DESIGNATED OHV AREAS

o   Designated OHV trails in areas covered by the waiver for OHV use remain open for use during Level 1 & 2 industrial fire precautions (IFPL).

o   Under a Level 3 industrial fire precaution (IFPL 3) trails in areas covered by the waiver for OHV use close but the roads in the OHV areas remain open for riding.

o   These areas include the Browns Camp Area, Lyda Camp Area, Jordan Creek Area, Diamond Mill Area, Trask and the BLM Upper Nestucca.  OHV Trail Status can be checked online at:  http://www.oregon.gov/ODF/Tillamookstateforest/pages/index.aspx

·        NO FIREWORKS.

·        NO WELDING, ARC/TORCH CUTTING OR GRINDING OF METAL.

·        NO USE OF HEAT GENERATING AMMUNITION (TRACER ROUNDS) OR EXPLODING TARGETS WHILE TARGET SHOOTING.

·        REQUIRED FOR ALL VEHICLES OPERATING IN THE WOODS (except dirt bikes and quads)

o   1 gallon of water or a 2.5 pound fire extinguisher

o   1 shovel with an 8 inch blade and at least 26 inches long from the tip of the blade to the tip of the handle

Please note, the non-motorized trail networks remain open under IFPL 1, 2, 3 unless a note from ODF states otherwise.

For more information:

·        Designated dispersed campsites: http://www.oregon.gov/odf/tillamookstateforest/pages/dispersedcamping.aspx

·        OHV trail status and waiver map: http://www.oregon.gov/ODF/Tillamookstateforest/pages/index.aspx

·        Statewide Fire Season Status map:            http://www.oregon.gov/odf/pages/fire/precautionlevelMap.aspx

·        General information call 503-357-2191

Or, you can give me a call Sunday – Thursday and I’ll try to answer any questions you may have.  Generally, these restrictions stay in effect into October – I will send out updates as information becomes available.

Thanks for your help in keeping our forest lands safe from fires!

New post from TSF 7 28 15

for your info

Hi Everyone,

As you’ve probably guessed from watching the nightly reports of brush fires on the local news, fire danger is on the rise.  With the forecast for rising temperatures and east winds, the IFPL (Industrial Fire Precaution Level) will be going to a LEVEL 3 at 1:00 AM on Thursday, July 30, 2015.

For recreation visitors to the Tillamook State Forest that means,  effective at 1:00 a.m., PDT, July 30, 2015  the OHV Trails in the Browns Camp, Jordan Creek, Diamond Mill, Trask and BLM Upper Nestucca OHV Areas will CLOSE and remain CLOSED for the duration of the IFPL 3.  During the IFPL 3, OHV operation in the Browns Camp,  Jordan Creek, Diamond Mill, Trask and BLM Upper Nestucca areas will be limited to travel on maintained gravel roads only.  Additionally, the non-industrial (personal use) chainsaw wavier is rescinded as part of the IFPL 3 closure.

I will send out another e-mail when the IFPL drops back down and the OHV trails re-open.  I will also maintain the information on the TSF homepage.  (http://www.oregon.gov/ODF/Tillamookstateforest )  As always, feel free to drop me an e-mail or give me a call if you have any questions about the closure.

Please help spread the word about the OHV trail closure.  Thanks for helping to keep the Tillamook State Forest safe from wildfires!

Regards,

we got rain, TSF  open again

Hello,

As of 0100 this morning we dropped out of level 3 to level 2.  OHV trails are open and campfires are allowed in the campgrounds only.  Remember to follow all fire regulations.  No campfires outside of campgrounds, remember your fire tools and no smoking outside your vehicle.  Bring a shovel and 1 gallon of water or a shovel and 2 ˝ lb. fire extinguisher in your vehicle while visiting the forest.

Have fun out there and be safe.
