1  General Category / General Discussion / Moab on: June 01, 2012, 11:45:44 am
Hey Kids!  Haven't stopped by in quite a while.  Been busy with the kids racing GP and trying my hand at it as well.  So, let's get to the reason for this post:  Moab!  Folks, if you haven't ridden your trials bike in/around Moab do it, do it now.  Went down there on a "mancation" for a week.  Third dirt bike trip to the area.  Spent the first four days riding and crashing my trusty race bike. Come day-4, a large square-edged rock and my water pump got intimate.  Fortunately, I brought my Beta along for such an eventuality.  I can tell you the next trip to Moab, my race bike will be the backup steed.  My Beta dominated the terrain.  Not talking just Hells Revenge/Slick Rock area (which is the only place I used my Beta in the past), but on those long, brutal, hot desert rides as well.  Silty sand, river rock, slick rock, and even established two-track were no match. So impressed was I with the Beta in this environment, I've already ordered up the Beta Long Ride Kit.  Anyway, the point is, go to Moab (I especially like the Behind The Rocks area) and thank me later.  Here is why you should consider doing this:

Yes, I forgot my trials helmet and my neck is still sore (and hot):

Letting my buddy, "Mr. Expert Class Racer," put a few scratches on my ride:

Didn't even consider trying this (a lot more vertical than it appears):

Hells Revenge/Slick Rock Area:

This is a very small sampling of what we rode down there (I didn't put my helmet cam on until day-4).

Hoping to come watch on Sunday (daughter has a track meet on Saturday).  Weather is looking promising.

I'm a couple hours north on Hwy 97 (near Wasco).  I'd be up for some shenanigans come Spring/Summer.

Thanks Jeff.  I'm in a holding pattern until after Nationals.  Hopefully there will be a 08 in my garage next week.

Thanks.  Getting that guy to reply to emails was like pulling teeth.  I gave up.  Thanks though.

Okay, I must have a trials bike.  I've been bitten by the bug.  Looking for a good price on a 2003-era 250+ bike.  280 Gasser, Sherco, whatever.  Not looking for a bike all beat to heck, but not looking to spend a king's ransom either on a near-new bike either.  Thanks!  Phone: five-4-one, nine-8-zero six-three-1-four.

Well, checked it out in Dallesport on Sat and Sun.  Okay, I definately need a bike.  Y2K-era bike needed, so if you have a line on one, please let me know.  Thanks!

Hello Folks,

Thought I'd say hi.  I have this crazy notion in my pea brain that I should give trials a try.  I've been reading this and reading that.  Yup, I think it might be a good fit.  Was advised of this group, so thought I'd sign up and get a better feel of things.  Looking for a cheap ride right now and since I'm not far from Dallesport, I'll probably be watching some of you this weekend (talk about good timing).  I ride trails and like to jump, but I enjoy the slower more technical routes when I ride (KTM 505 XC-F -tweaked for trails).  I really enjoy trips to Moab.  So, trials seem a natural progression.  Anyway, let's see where this goes and I'll see you folks this weekend.
