Diamond Mill is in dire need of new bathrooms! The old units have recently been decommissioned due to leaky vaults.

The Tillamook district will be attempting to secure Yamaha grant dollars to purchase and install a new double vault CXT bathroom. The deadline for the grant application is December 3rd so we are earnestly seeking support from our recreation partners who have interest in the Diamond Mill staging area and trail access.

As you know Diamond Mill is our largest open staging area on the forest. It offers 20 overnight campsites, access to 60 miles of trail, and contains a trials bike course and kids track within the staging area.  The new bathrooms will be a welcome addition and add to the comfort of day use and overnight guests.

The more letters of support we obtain from OHV groups, the better our chances will be of securing the grant money. If you feel inclined to voice your support please do so in the form of a letter with your clubs official letterhead. Be sure to emphasize the importance of the Diamond Mill staging area in relation to the access it provides to the trail network. Also, please emphasize the importance of good bathroom facilities for the comfort of Diamond Mill users and a sanitary staging area!

The total cost of the project is $34,000. ODF will be able to match $7,000, but we are seeking additional funds to match the Yamaha money and increase the success of obtaining the grant. If your club can offer funds, or offer the ability to raise funds please contact me.

Please scan and email your letters of support to Nathan Seable:  nseable@odf.state.or.us

I would like to have the letter by November 30th at the latest.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or would like to discuss the project: (503) 815-7044

Happy Trails and Thank You in advance!

Nathan

The Oregon Department of Forestry distributed the following news release today:

Yamaha Awards GRANT of $26,204 to Oregon Department of Forestry, Tillamook District

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                                                                              Distribution:  Major Media

February 16, 2011                                                                                                    Contact:  Nathan Seable, 503-815-7044

11-07

Tillamook, Oregon—The Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) is pleased to announce that it has received a Yamaha OHV Access Initiative GRANT of $26,204. This grant provides the majority of funds needed to replace decommissioned wood structure restrooms at the Diamond Mill OHV staging area with a CXT double vault concrete restroom. The GRANT (Guaranteeing Responsible Access to our Nation’s Trails) was awarded as part of the Yamaha OHV Access Initiative promoting safe, responsible riding and open, sustainable riding areas.

The grant will be combined with a $200 dollar donation from the Columbia Observed Trials Association (COTA), along with $7,000 dollars provided by ODF through Oregon State ATV funds. Together these funds will purchase a new double vault “Tioga Special” CXT concrete built restroom. These restrooms are known for their durability, functionality, and ability to withstand harsh climate conditions.

“Diamond Mill is a very popular and busy staging area that gives access to over 60 miles of trail. This is going to make a lot of people happy,” said Nathan Seable, Recreation Manager for ODF’s Tillamook District.

“Having this functioning restroom at Diamond Mill will also help deter resource damage and water quality issues near the North Fork Wilson River adjacent to the staging are. We are very pleased that Yamaha stepped up; this project wouldn’t be happening without their support.”

“The Oregon Department of Forestry has been exemplary in its ability to identify on-the-ground projects that deliver real benefits to the OHV community in terms of access and sustainability,” said Steve Nessl, Yamaha ATV/SxS marketing manager. “In addition to the comfort of the trail community, these new facilities support the protection of sensitive waterways and wildlife. This department has found ways to make the most of our OHV Access Initiative for their projects”

Way cool of you guys to step up there!
I was blown away when I visited last. Used to ride there a LOT when I lived in PDX.
Went over last fall for the fist time since 2006.
Staging area sure has changed! Loved your trials area in the corner! And trials bike only trails on the map wow.
Awesome work! Wish we had more moto friendly FS people over here. They all seem to think we like riding around on quad trails in circles???

I find it hilarious they are locked.  Kinda' like the good china, we wouldn't want anyone actually using the GOOD toilets!  Got to keep them nice in case company comes!
