What is a fun trial? (please read)

The club has decided to take a minute and explain the spirit and benefits of the new Fun Trials events for this season. Our reasoning behind holding Fun Trials will be to provide the event marshals an opportunity to hold a practice on the day prior to the event. Additionally, this will allow club members the option to hold a last minute event that was not on the schedule with out penalizing other members.
During last year’s schedule we came across lots of days where we could have provided members the option of coming out and practicing or camping days prior to events. By providing our Fun Trials Series we will have the option to do just that. Event marshals can choose to set up however many sections and loops they desire or they can also be open for just practice. Fun day trials will not allow the use of the same sections as the points events thus there is no advantage for competitors other than just time on the bike. These events will use the minimal amount of club resources and will be held to a small fee ($5-10) depending on location. The event marshal has the option of revoking his fun trials if needed because of weather or time. Fun event marshals must give a 2-week notice by using our forum and notifying our board members. Marshals must also give a small description of their event during notification.
We’re hoping that by hosting these events we can provide additional opportunities for members to participate while allowing more organization to our club’s events. The clubs biggest goal is to help new members learn how to set up and ride sections correctly as well as provide more advanced riders the opportunity to challenge themselves in a non-competitive arena. We’re hoping that members of COTA will have a positive outlook as we try some new things this year.
Thanks,
Jason Matheney
