Hopefully the club can set up a meeting with Dave and his superiors to implement this.

C.O.T.A.  riders,

As you know, we have had requests to allow trials events outside of our Tillamook Forest Event Calendar season.    We discussed this at yesterday’s OHV Team meeting.

One suggested solution was to utilize the Club Ride provisions which allow a club to hold a group ride that is NOT an Event, i.e. club members only, no signup fee, not advertised to the public via flyers, web, etc.    The one gray area was allowing “course markings” for something that is not an Event.

We had a consensus that allowing a club to hold motorcycle trials as a club ride with ribbon and split markers, without a permit would be acceptable without an Event permit in the established trials areas.   Utilizing the “group check” method would most likely eliminate the need to arrow any “transport/transfer” sections?  These areas would of course remain open to any/all casual users that happened to be riding those areas that day, not closed to them like they would be via an Event permit.

Please get back to me and let me know if you think using the Club Ride provisions while allowing course ribbons and split markers would provide the opportunity you are looking for during the winter Non-Event months.

Thanks,

This could be the best news the club has had in many years, when I first moved to Oregon COTA used to run trials down the burn and no permit was required, this allowed the club to run an event without planning dates and location a year or so ahead of time.

This opportunity will be, as I read it , in the off winter months of no other club events. For the ODF event season we will still need to attend and apply for the premium event dates with the other clubs, ie April thru October, which will take place near the end of the year.
A meeting with Dave Hyaitt should take place soon to help finalize the ODF's plans much to our benefit.
