Meeting Time:       Sign-In 9:00-9:30 A.M. / Trail Work Starts at 10:00 A.M.

 

Meeting Location:  Smith Homestead parking lot just off Hwy 6 at MP22.  This is at the turn off to the Diamond Mill OHV area/Jones Creek campground before you cross the bridge.  Lyon Payne (503) 707-1021  will meet volunteers here and lead them to the work area.

 

Work Description:     

 

We will be clearing a lot of logging slash and grub hoeing in a rolling contour (lots of grade reversals for water control) single track, single black diamond category motorcycle only trail to replace the trail we lost when it was converted to a road.   The two primary tools are chain saws (bring your own with your safety equipment as we cannot let volunteers use ODF chainsaws) and grub hoes/mattocks (we will have some of those for volunteers to use).

 

It takes two to three “swampers” (people to move cut debris) for every volunteer with a chainsaw so be sure to show up even if all you have for tools is a pair of work gloves and a strong back!

It feels like fall in the forest, perfect work party weather. The annual all-forest work party and volunteer recognition BBQ is this weekend on Saturday, September 11, 2010.  There will be a couple of work party options for folks to choose from:
